On Oct. 15, Miami joined the global force of A21’s Walk For Freedom campaign in which thousands of people around the world united and walked to create awareness about human trafficking and eradicating it.
A21 is a leading non-profit organization that activists Christine and Nick Caine created in 2008 in Australia. It is now established in 12 cities around the world and focuses on fighting and preventing human trafficking.
The organization created the Walk for Freedom, where members walk in a single file line holding posters that show a trafficking hotline number in hopes of reaching people that it can help and raising local awareness.
In the middle of a blazingly sunny day, the protesters began walking two miles at 4 p.m. down SW Eighth Street near Fifth Avenue. Before the walk, a sponsor from the energy drink Celsius was handing out cans. Afterwards, the crowds were offered complimentary snacks and drinks to make up for their work.
