Twitter’s former head of security attacks with 200-page disclosure (includes video story)

Former Twitter Head of Security Peiter Zatko is now a whistleblower. He claims that nearly half of the company’s employees have access to its main security controls.

Twitter hired the renowned cyber-security executive following a tremendous hack of the platform in 2020. The company fired Zatko in January of this year and now faces a 200-page disclosure that Zatko submitted to U.S. Law Enforcement last month. The disclosure addresses many vulnerabilities that he fears put the platform’s security at a global risk. Represented by John Tye of Whistleblower Aid, Zatko claims the company has been misleading about many aspects including bot/fake account numbers.

Twitter has fired back, stating that Zatko’s claims are inaccurate and that he “was fired from his Senior Executive Role at Twitter more than six months ago for poor performance and leadership. He now appears to be opportunistically seeking to inflict harm on Twitter, its customers, and its shareholders.”

When asked why he made the disclosure, Zatko explained that he wants to make the world a safer place with better security, information and privacy.
