The Ventanita at West Kendall’s Sweet Melody offers ice cream in amazing flavors (video story included)

Sweet Melody is a small family-owned dairy plant in West Kendall that serves ice cream through a small window. Owner Mike Romeu came up with the idea for “The Ventanita,” which originally only sold coffee and pastries.

Visitors can expect flavors such as kooki monster and strawberry fields whenever, as well as classics like vanilla bean. Virtually everything is made at the location except for a few toppings. In order to produce so many flavors with a small staff, Sweet Melody serves only pints Monday to Thursday and scoops Thursday to Sunday.

“[Mike] really wanted to sell his product from this location and that’s when he came up with the idea of The Ventanita,” said pastry chef Stephanie Esquivel. Due to the strict regulations on dairy plants, visitors are not allowed inside.

The place is quickly becoming a local favorite. It’s located at 15224 Sunset Drive and is open noon to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday.
