Six juveniles may have made racist threats to universities (includes video story)

Authorities on Thursday identified six juveniles as persons of interest in the threats to more than a dozen historically Black colleges, including Howard University in Washington, D.C., and Bethune-Cookman in Florida. 

Daytona Beach Police Chief Jakari Young says a male who claimed to be a part of a neo-Nazi group known as Atomwaffen Division called Bethune-Cookman University on Monday morning, saying that he had left explosives in a duffle bag on campus. The caller also said that a gunman would open fire on campus at around lunchtime that day.

Police searched but did not find any explosives or shooters. The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force is leading the investigation into the threats.

Fabio Lopez is an undergraduate student at Florida International University. He transferred from Miami-Dade College with an Associates Degree in Mass Communication. Currently, he is pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Digital Broadcasting. Lopez is an Assistant Director for the student-led newspaper PantherNOW Sports. He is also a communications intern for Inter Miami and a member of the FIU Honors College.
