Demings and Rubio face off in Senate debate (includes video story)

Republican Sen. Marco Rubio and Democratic Rep. Val Demings have been battling on the airways for weeks, but last night they got a chance to face off live in their first and only televised debate on the stage of the Palm Beach State College.

Rubio’s experience on the debate stage came off the screen, as he leaned into his legislative achievements with a quick and assertive tone: “I’m proud of the fact we saved jobs. I’m proud of the fact we did it in a bipartisan way,” Rubio said.

Demings cast her opponent as a standard politician who lies and cheats to win. “I think there was a time you didn’t lie in order to win,” Demings said. “I don’t know what happened.”

The election is less than three weeks away and early voting has begun.
