The story of Quality Moment Coffee Bar, a growing business in Broward

A mother and daughter with a suitcase full of dreams and hopes turned into a recognized food truck in South Florida.

A Colombian mother and wife, Sandra Monroy, who owns Quality Moment Coffee Bar, was recently nominated to attend a Latin entrepreneurs awards event in Miami.

Monroy, 46, was born in Colombia and grew up in Venezuela. In 2016 she moved to the United States with her daughter. Two years later, she met the man who would become her husband, Roger Fonseca, 44, from Honduras.

Their idea of romance was sitting at a coffee shop dreaming up about their future business.

“We wanted it to be something special that represents our cultures since he is from Honduras, and he is a coffee lover,” she recalls. “While I’m Colombian, I wasn’t a big fan of this drink.”

Soon, they started visiting different places such as coffee shops, farmers’ markets and food trucks.

“We started learning about the coffee origin and discovering things that are really surprising like what is behind this popular and exquisite beverage,” Monroy said in Spanish. “We visited many places that gave us a lot of inspiration. We tried and compared until I became passionate about the coffee business.”

Not everything went according to their plans and dreams, but they never gave up.

Although Monroy and Fonseca wanted to invest their savings into a cafe, later they discarded the idea due to the number of requirements and the high cost of rent.

They started to investigate and saw that food trucks were trending, making them one step closer to the possibility of owning a business.

“Each step we took brought us closer and closer to our dream,” Monroy said. “We chose a beautiful illustration and bright colors to decorate our truck.”

The experience of testing different types of coffee culminated with the idea of creating Quality Moments Coffee, their business brand.

They opened their doors in June 2022 at Southwest Ranches Farmers Market. They have become an integral part of the local community offering empanadas, tacos, churros, smoothies and coffee.

Monroy knows that it is a long and difficult road, but she is a woman with great faith and feels confident that she can be a wife, mother and entrepreneur at the same time.
