Bodycam footage has been released from the shooting in Times Square on Saturday May 8th. In the video we see a New York Police Department Officer running to the aid of a 4-year-old girl who had received a gunshot wound to her left leg.
The body cam was on officer Alyssa Vogul, a former gym teacher turned police officer. Vogul is from the Midtown North Precinct of the NYPD and was near Times Square around 5 pm when three innocent bystanders were hit by stray bullets, including the little girl who was going to the toy store with her family.
In the footage we see Vogul grab a tourniquet from her belt and wrap it around the child’s leg to stop her bleeding. She then picked her up and raced her to the nearest ambulance.
“I was just looking at her and saying if this was my kid I would be running her myself to the hospital or an ambulance,” said Vogul recalling the moments she saw the wounded child. “She was amazing. I can not believe that a little girl her age who had just been shot was so calm.”
The little girl was taken to Bellevue Hospital where she had surgery and has since been released and is at home recovering.
