Planet Word dedicated to increasing national literacy rates (includes video story)

Located in the historic Franklin School in Washington, D.C, Planet Word is the only museum in the nation dedicated to words in hopes of increasing falling national literacy rates and fostering more engaged citizens.

“A literate population is the foundation of a strong, modern democracy. Readers are more likely to be volunteers, to be engaged in their community and to vote,” said Patty Isacson Sabee, executive director of the museum.

Through their interactive exhibits, such as a wall of lit-up 3D words, an interactive library that brings books to life and even karaoke, visitors of all ages are encouraged to interact with words and reconnect with language.
