Photos show Black Lives Matter protesters marching through Wynwood, Downtown and Homestead

The Black Lives Matter movement continued to advocate for justice against police brutality and racism throughout Miami this past weekend.

Friday’s Wynwood demonstration celebrated the 27th birthday of Breonna Taylor, an African American woman who was fatally shot on March 13 in her Louisville apartment by police who forced their way in.

On Saturday, the demonstration spread to Doral, FIU, downtown, Homestead and Miramar. The protestors were much more orderly and peaceful than last weekend, while spreading love and preserving the names of those who have fallen victim to police brutality.

Photographer Yasser Marte documented several of the protests.

I attended Santa Monica College not knowing my interest and major but I knew that I had to return to school. I took some photography because I had an interest in social-economic issues, history and politics and how photographs have the ability to captivate the narrative and atmosphere of these topics. Once I joined The Corsair newspaper I delved deeply into writing and photography. That’s when I decided to immerse myself in journalism. I transferred to FIU continuing my studies in Journalism and photography and I am proudly interning with the Caplin News.
