On eve of new stimulus, restaurants reopen (includes video story)

Coronavirus cases continue to rise in Broward and Miami-Dade counties. Since the reopening of restaurants, it has been hard to find workers due at least partially to high-paying unemployment checks. Taste Casual Grille in Hobe Sound had to close on Mondays because of a lack of workers. “If you know anybody, send them my way,” said Taste Casual Grille owner, Craig Kingston.

Emely Pereyra formerly worked as a waitress at Hooter’s Pembroke Pines until the pandemic. She did not go back to work due to the checks she was receiving from unemployment.

Indeed, once many places reopened but with limited capacity, some servers and others declined to go back to work.

By contrast, Arbetter’s Hot Dogs has experienced a positive push during this crisis. Owner Dave Arbetter sees no problem in paying employees enough. Despite the changes in the restaurant business due to COVID-19, he kept all his employees working.
