The city of North Miami has officially declared a state of emergency and cancelled all special and city-supported events, according to the city’s official website.
Cancelled events include: Woman Optimizing Now, Get in Gear Community Bike Ride, Resilient NoMi Summit, Movies on the Lawn, Paint it Proud and Community Potluck Cook-Off.
“Any costs we have to absorb with the cancellation of events is regrettable, but the health and safety of residents and staff comes first,” said Councilman Scott Galvin.
All public meetings have been cancelled, including the March 24 city council meeting.
“If we have to cancel any council meetings, we’ll just move any agenda items until the next meeting. None of it is so important it can’t wait,” he said.
The city’s administrative offices will remain open, but staff will alternate between working from home and in person, according to the city’s website.
“Please stay safe, do not attend any big gatherings and if you feel sick please stay at home,” said Vice Mayor Alix Desulme.
“We are all in this together, therefore, we need to look out for each other,” he said.
The city recommends individuals in the Miami-Dade area who may have been exposed to COVID-19 or experience symptoms to call their medical provider and Florida Department of Health at (305) 324-2400.
