The Coral Gables Community Foundation and the city of Coral Gables are collaborating to host UK artist Luke Jerram’s “Museum of the Moon,” an internationally renowned and traveling art installation that has been admired in major cities all over the globe.
The hanging moon measures 23 feet in diameter and illustrates the image of the moon in 120 dots per inch. Each inch of the sculpture represents eight miles of its surface.
Located in the center of Ponce Circle Park, viewers are exposed to a fusion of lunar imagery, moonlight, and surround-sound composition, along with food and beverage vendors. It is a festive scene where people can picnic or sit on public benches and gaze at the installation.
The City of Coral Gables will continue to host the open-air event next Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, for the next two weeks and as long as weather conditions remain stable. It will include activities such as “Yoga under The Moon,” a “Saint Patrick’s Day Celebration” and a “Goodnight Moon, Pajama Party.”
