On Wednesday, Miami’s Mayor Francis Suarez led the 91st Winter Meeting of the Conference of Mayors in Washington D. C.
He spoke about public safety, supporting the police and immigration issues.
“Unchecked immigration places a tremendous burden on our cities,” said Mayor Suarez. “The pressure is often driven by our hemispheric neighbors who have prioritized ideology over the well-being of their people. We need to recognize this threat and give it the importance it deserves within our foreign policy framework.”
A special panel with members of the U. S. Latino Alliance discussed the importance of the Latino vote, which has grown and played a big role during last November’s midterm election. According to the Pew Research Center, Hispanics now make up 14% of the U.S. voting population.
According to the agenda, the conference will hold special sessions on mental health, LGBTQ issues, the Fentanyl epidemic, and responses to mass shootings.
