Hurricane season begins at FIU’s wall of wind (includes video story)

Hurricane season started Wednesday, and Florida International University officials reassured residents that they are prepared with a new wall of wind developed by teams of students. The 12 large electric fans were built to simulate hurricane-force winds.

FIU Interim President Kenneth A. Jessell called it, “the most powerful university research facility of its kind  and the only one capable of simulating cat 5 hurricane winds.” Said the proud.

The National Hurricane Center acknowledged their partnerships, including one with FEMA.

South Floridians are still urged to prepare at home. Experts suggest having at least one gallon of water per person along with non-perishable food.
