Respiratory illnesses on the rise in South Florida (includes video story)

With the holiday season in full swing, people are traveling at nearly pre-pandemic numbers. At the same time, a triple threat of viruses is looming. Respiratory Syncytial (RSV) is one of the viruses causing primary concern, especially in children.

Dr. Anthony Fauci said the U.S. is at a critical point and it’s closely approaching an emergency.

“In some regions of the country, we’re seeing that the hospital system for pediatrics are at the point of almost being overwhelmed,” said Dr. Fauci.

With the flu, Covid and RSV circulating, Dr. Fauci said it’s important to protect yourself this holiday season and that begins with being up to date with your vaccines.

Medical experts advise washing your hands, wearing a mask around others if you’re in the vulnerable category, taking a COVID test and getting vaccinated.
