With over 300 mass shootings so far this year, The FIU Police Department conducted a three-part active shooter response training Tuesday for staff, faculty and students at the College of Law on the MMC campus.
The training consisted of a lecture, medical response training and a live simulation. Lt. Jose Ramierz led the lecture part of the training with gun safety, survival tips and other safety precautions. Additionally, medical professional Bridget Pelaez showed live demonstrations on medical treatment for the wounded.
The simulation had gunshot noises, high police presence and different scenarios for roleplaying. FIUPD plans to conduct more training over the next couple of years with the rise of mass shootings.
