Brimstone Woodfire Grill at the Shops of Pembroke Gardens hosted its second annual “Bark N’ Brunch” event last week, but its first in tying the doggie dining event to a fundraiser.
The proceeds from a Bloody Mary-themed raffle, about $150, went to Good Karma Pet Rescue. The Fort Lauderdale nonprofit focuses on cats and dogs.
“Our mission also is to help curb pet overpopulation and suffering by supporting spade-neuter programs and to maintain responsible rescue practices,” said Good Karma manager Oda Serexis, who attended with her dog Hardy.
Brimstone General Manager Sara Kim said she chose to support the group, in part, to raise awareness of smaller rescue operations. She said she plans to host bimonthly events, each featuring a differing group.
“We will continue to dedicate our time to host “Bark N’ Brunch” every other month if this means we can help these helpless animals find their forever home,” said Kim.
Dogs were served a non-alcoholic doggy cocktail called a “Chicki-Tini” and different kinds of treats. Owners, on the other hand, got to choose from a more traditional brunch menu.
Kim said the restaurant wants to have different cocktails made for every event. For the first “Bark N’ Brunch” last year, dogs were served a different drink called “Beef-On-The-Rocks.”
“The chef is personally preparing the mocktails, and we are instructing all of our servers to offer each dog on the patio a mocktail with free refills,” said Kim.
Pet owner Catalina Echeverri and her Goldendoodle Nina attended the event.
“Nina and I had a lovely time at the event. Nina usually gets anxious when around other dogs in a group setting like that but the location was very open and everyone was so nice that she did just fine. We both got to enjoy some good drinks and treats, overall it was human friendly and dog friendly, she said.
Brimstone staff prepped the patio area with doggy bowls, trash cans and accident bags. Since last year’s event was a huge success, management was staffed for heavy volume.
