COVID-19 boosters will likely be administered annually starting this fall. The CDC is recommending a new booster that is a combination of the old vaccine recipe and new protection against current Omicron versions. However, this could potentially change if a new variant causes a major surge.
“We expect millions of people to get the shot this month as folks get back to school, back to work and get back to their regular routines after the summer,” said Dr. Ashish Jha, one of the White House COVID-19 response coordinators.
Some people at high risk may need more than one shot a year. Although the virus isn’t causing as much severe illness as before, it could be around for years.
