Blood donations are declining due to a dip in temperatures in the northern United States, but that has not interrupted the need for emergency blood transfusions.
“We should take action and make an impact…in the North especially,” said blood donor Gabriel Herrera. “To you it’s just your blood, but to them it’s their life.”
One of every seven hospitalized people needs a transfusion. To avoid a continuous shortage, the American Red Cross is urging those eligible to roll up their sleeves and contribute. South Florida is just one of the locations where people can support those in need. Wearther here is better than up north.
“Only 3% [donate], so we’re really asking people to come out, make an appointment to donate,” Dr. Baia Lasky from American Red Cross said.
