City Theatre’s Susan Westfall brings art to new generations

InspicioArts, our sister art publication platform, published a video conversation with Susan Westfall, playwright and co-founder of City Theatre.

City Theatre, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2022, is the only professional theatre in the country dedicated to developing and producing short new plays and musicals, each of which average 10 minutes in length. “Summer Shorts” is their festival of short plays by renowned (like Lin-Manuel Miranda) and emerging playwrights, during which an ensemble of actors performs in 10 plays of varying styles.

“Miami is becoming a really interesting destination, the new playwright’s coming up have such fascinating stories to tell that deserve to be heard not only locally, but everywhere,” said Westfall.

Westfall works to grow the theatre community in South Florida. She trains young playwrights and helps them produce their plays, introducing a newer generation to the performing arts.
