Biden in Mexico for North American Leaders’ Summit (includes video story)

President Joe Biden is in Mexico today to meet with his Mexican counterpart Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The 2023 North American Leaders’ Summit takes place this week as the U.S. continues to face an influx of migrants — a crisis that is overwhelming federal and local resources.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, nearly 2.4 million immigrants were apprehended as they tried to enter the U.S. southern border in the fiscal year that ended in September. It’s a concern that has both Democratic and Republican leaders calling for action.

“We take what’s happening at the southern border very seriously, unlike some and unlike the president of the United States, who has refused to lift a finger to secure that border,” said Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

President Biden made his first trip to the southern border as Commander in Chief yesterday. He met with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott who handed Biden a letter with five actions he wants Biden to take, including the resumption of construction on the state’s border wall.
