Award-winning drummer Lee Levin shares skills with next generation (includes video story)

Lee Levin is a Grammy-award winning drummer, engineer, and producer. He has recorded and toured with a variety of artists, including Barry Gibb (of The Bee Gees), Julio Iglesias and John Secada. Along with making music, Levin also enjoys giving back to his community through multiple avenues. These include working with MusiCares, an arm of the Recording Academy, which is the organization that is in charge of the Grammys. The organization does a lot to help musicians in need, from buying instruments to helping with mortgage payments if a musician falls ill and needs financial help.

Levin also volunteers at West Broward High School, where he lends his audio expertise to the school’s drama club, where his son Noah takes part in multiple productions. He mentors the students working the sound equipment and oversees that the sound in each production is as flawless and enjoyable as possible for the audience and cast. He even assists in putting together the musical cues and sound effects that are necessary in telling the story of each play or musical. The school’s latest production was the Cole Porter musical,  Anything Goes, marking Levin’s eighth show helping with sound.

By giving back to his community, Levin hopes to pass on his knowledge and experience to the younger generation. “I feel like it’s our obligation as professionals to make sure that the next generation or next two generations that are coming up learn from either the mistakes that we’ve made or the information that we have in order to make them better at whatever they’re doing.”
