Asian Culture Festival in Tropical Park promotes cultural diversity (includes video story)

The Asian Culture Festival brought people together to celebrate the diversity of Asian cultures through music, performances, demonstrations, art and a selection of authentic Asian cuisine.

Organized by the Thai-American Association of South Florida with the Miami Dade County Asian-American Advisory Board, the annual festival promotes the importance of cultural diversity in building a vibrant, prosperous and healthy community.

“We have great food, great music, great signing and the environment is great for families of all sizes and ages,” said Anthony Rodriguez, vice chairman of District 10 inMiami-Dade. “I think this type of festival brings to Miami Dade County the idea that we are truly a united community.”

A Buddhist exhibition also offered blessings by monks with the goal of spreading love and kindness to the community.

“We have monks here to give blessings and to tie red threads for good luck and protection,” said Meili Rego, a Buddhist advocate from the Buddhist Exhibition.

In addition to promoting Asian culture and cuisine, some vendors raised relief funds for those affected by the earthquake in Turkey.
