Families of the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting victims have reached a $73 million settlement. It came more than seven years after the lawsuit was filed.
“Today is a day of accountability for an industry that has thus far enjoyed operating with immunity and impunity,” shared Veronique De La Rosa, victim Noah Pozner’s Mother.
On December 14, 2012, twenty-six people were killed in Newtown, Connecticut, when 20-year-old Adam Lanza went on a shooting spree. Twenty of the victims were children between six and seven years old, and six were adult staff members. It was the deadliest mass shooting at an elementary school in U.S. history,
Now gun maker Remington has agreed to the settlement with the families of five children and four adults killed in the massacre. Remington manufactured the Bushmaster AR-15-style rifle. Lawyers for the families claimed Remington knowingly marketed military-grade weapons to unstable individuals.
Last summer, Remington offered the families nearly $33 million as a settlement offer. And in 2020– Remington filed for bankruptcy for the second time in two years.
With Remington now in bankruptcy, the families will split the $73 million settlement. Attorneys say all the coverage that Remington’s four insurance carriers can pay.
