Pfizer is officially the first COVID-19 vaccine approved by the FDA (includes video story)

The  Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine has finally gained its full and final approval in the United States.

However, many unvaccinated Americans are still concerned about the quick creation and approval of the vaccine. U.S. Food and Drug Administration officials are assuring the public the process has not compromised on efficacy or safety.

“This is a pivotal moment for our country in the fight against the pandemic.” said acting FDA Commissioner Dr. Janet Woodcock, “The public can be confident that this vaccine meets the FDA’s gold standard for safety, effectiveness, and manufacturing quality.”

Many doctors are hoping the approval will help bring about more vaccine mandates. Now that the shot is no longer under emergency approval, the government, jobs and schools may be more likely to force people to receive it.

University of Miami Intensive Care Unit Medical Director Dr. David De La Zerda said “It’s a game-changer for us here at the hospital. Now that the vaccine is approved, that opens the door for us.”
