Omicron cases surge as FIU welcomes students back (includes video story)

Florida International University students returned to campus after the holidays Monday as omicron variant cases skyrocketed both in the state and across the nation.

Mary Jo Trepka, a professor and chair of FIU’s Department of Epidemiology, explained how to protect yourself from Omicron this way.

“The best way to do this is by getting a COVID-19 vaccine and a booster,” said Dr. Trepka. “People who got a booster are very unlikely to be in the hospital.”

Filling out the university’s P3 App before arriving on campus is the most convenient step in slowing the spread of the virus.
