Bees are an essential part of the environment. They are hardworking pollinators that help with many food sources. These include fruits, nuts, berries, seeds, and vegetables. Bees also benefit biodiversity. They pollinate wildflowers and plants that help our landscapes and gardens.
Jon Coldwell, a beekeeper who volunteers at a non-profit organization in Oakland Park called Urban Farming Institute, knew that he wanted to help the bees somehow. He and his wife, Teresa Coldwell, both have years of experience as beekeepers. While volunteering, they spoke with the City of Oakland Park about starting what may be the first micro-apiary in Florida at the institute.
Urban Farming institute aims to educate people on growing their own healthy food sources. Coldwell also said, adding, “Bees are the primary pollinator of the foodstuffs for dairy and meat animals,” so without them, these important parts of the human diet would cease to exist.
These are some of the most un-BEE-lievable insects in existence.
