Monkeypox may be in Broward (includes video story)

The CDC is closely watching a cluster of six people, including two from South Florida, for possible monkeypox infections.

Health officials and President Biden are working to ease growing concerns over the virus.

“I just don’t think it rises to the level of the kind of concern that existed with COVID 19… the smallpox vaccine works for it,” said the President. “So…I think people should be careful.”

The World Health Organization says there are more than 90 confirmed cases in a dozen countries. The illness is mostly found in central and west Africa.

The two individuals in Broward County have been isolated and are currently being tested.

The U.S. government has ordered 119 million people worth of vaccines against the virus.

Officials say the virus is mostly spread by direct contact and is not easily transmitted.
