A real-estate agent charged with murder has been denied bond in court a second time. Miami police last year linked Willy Suarez Maceo, 25, to a string of murders involving homeless men.
Investigators identified Maceo as a suspect in the December 12 slaying of Jerome Antonio Price, 56, who was fatally shot near Miami’s Wynwood district; and the October 16, 2021 fatal stabbing of Manuel Perez, 59, in downtown Miami.
Maceo faces a third charge of attempted murder for the non-fatal shooting of an unidentified homeless man that took place a few hours before the attack on Price.
Miami-Dade County State Attorney, Katherine Fernandez Rundle showcased found footage from the nights of the attacks at a press conference this past weekend. Surveillance footage and cellphone records from those nights helped investigators track down Maceo.
“Having an unknown killer striking out at random victims is like no other type of crime to solve,” said Fernandez Rundle.
Police found a Glock 9mm handgun in his possession during his arrest. It potentially matches shell casings from the victims.
The Cuban-born real estate agent had no previous criminal record but was sent to the hospital last year for a mental health evaluation for unstable behavior in his parents’ home. He was then not considered enough of a risk for court intervention. Maceo has been behind bars since the Christmas season and continues there. His next court hearing is set for April 14, 2022.
