FIU: Worker dispute at BBC leads to gunfire; suspects in custody

An altercation between two Aramark grounds workers at BBC this afternoon resulted in a firearm being discharged near the motor pool, reports FIU’s department of external relations. A spokesperson told Local 10 TV news that no one was injured.

At about 1:44 p.m., FIU issued a first alert of police activity at BBC. A second message 15 minutes later warned people to stay away from the motor pool and that the rest of the campus was clear.

At 2:37 p.m., the university announced that those involved were in custody.

The motor pool is in the northwest corner of campus by the public safety, receiving and other operations buildings. They are away from classroom buildings, Hubert Library and Wolfe University Center.

Aramark, a publicly traded company that supplies goods and services to businesses and other organizations, maintains the grounds of FIU.
