FIU student brings goat yoga to Miami

Goat yoga, the latest (and cutest) fitness trend, has come to Miami. In this nationwide phenomenon, goats wander freely, jumping around, biting mats and making themselves comfortable on guests’ backs.

Emily Morgan, a 19-year-old Florida International University student, brought along her furry, four-legged friends for a special session of goat yoga on Feb. 16. As a member of the FIU Pre-Veterinary Society, Morgan organized the event to fundraise for the society and to highlight local, sustainable agriculture in the city.

“I really wanted to reach the people in Miami that would never have stepped on a farm, probably ever in their life,” she said.

Morgan owns a dairy goat farm in Homestead called Aiyana’s Empire, which started as a high school project. It now provides goat milk and cheese to local customers.

Although FIU does not have a veterinary school, the society gives students the opportunity to gain experience working with animals and accumulate the volunteer hours needed to enter veterinarian college.

This was the third goat yoga event hosted by Morgan and the society, and it likely won’t be the last. For updates, check out Aiyana’s Empire on Facebook/Instagram and the FIU Pre-Vet Society on Facebook/Instagram.
