FIU President Mark Rosenberg resigns as misconduct investigation is underway (includes video story)

Florida International University’s president, Dr. Mark Rosenberg, resigned this past Friday. Now, new details are emerging.

In his initial letter of resignation, Rosenberg cited his wife’s health as the reason for his departure. However, in a statement released yesterday, Rosenberg added …, “Unfortunately, these issues have spilled onto my work and I have caused discomfort to my colleague. I unwittingly created an emotional (not physical) entanglement. I apologize to you. I take full responsibility and regret my actions.”

According to the Miami Herald, the New York Times and others,  Rosenberg made unwanted overtures to a young employee starting in October 2021. He then apologized and stated it would not happen again.

After the board accepted Rosenberg’s resignation, Dr. Kenneth Jessell was named interim president.

“I want to thank former President Mark Rosenberg’s leadership and hard work in helping to make FIU what it is today,” shared Dr. Jessell.

Due to employee privacy considerations, FIU did not comment on this action any further.
