In the aftermath of the collapse of the Champlain Towers South building in Surfside, the community has created official donation sites to help those affected and in need of support.
The “Support Surfside Fund” is a partnership between the Coral Gables Community Foundation, the Key Biscayne Community Foundation and the Miami Foundation. Together, the organizations are launching funds for the victims and providing support through cash and prepaid cards. To donate, you can visit https://supportsurfside.org/.
Federal, state, local, private sector and nonprofit partners have come together to create a site called “Surfside Strength.” The site can redirect you to a number of resources meant for families, first responders and community support. Along with emotional assistance, the site also takes online donations. Click here to visit the website.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said that thanks to the many donations, they have “raised over $1.6 million to help these families.”
However, county officials are also warning the public about fraudulent donation pages, such as GoFundMe accounts and other cases where the money is not being donated to help with Surfside relief. They urge the public to be cautious and do research before making donations.
