Despite the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, many universities and NFL football stadiums welcomed back fans at full capacity this past weekend.
“This is the first time that I was really able to experience the student section at Hard Rock Stadium,” said University of Miami sophomore Marcel van Hemert. “I had an excellent time!”
Nonetheless, some are unsure that packed stadiums are safe for the community. “The football season descending upon us is a cause for a great deal of terror,” said University of Georgia Assistant Professor, Usree Bhattacharya. “The Board of Regents has to take notice and do the right thing.”
This concern comes as over 1,100 Americans have died from COVID-19 in the past week.
Last week President Biden announced a vaccine mandate for a large group of federal workers. His executive orders are forcing those who work for the government to get vaccinated. In the private sector, companies with more than a hundred workers must require that employees get the vaccine or submit to weekly COVID tests.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis responded by calling it “federal overreach.”
“You should not lose your job just because Joe Biden is having this hissy fit,” DeSantis said.
