Britney Spears’ father suspended from conservatorship (includes video)

After many calls for freedom, a Los Angeles superior court judge suspended Jamie Spears from his daughter’s conservatorship. The judge designated a certified public accountant to replace him but did not yet end the 13-year arrangement that motivated activism and created a movement.

Jamie Spears has overseen many aspects of his daughter’s life, including her health, medical needs and financial needs, since 2008.

“A long time coming.. and I think, you know, we wouldn’t be here if we hadn’t gotten to hear from Britney, directly, publicly,” said Free Britney activist Leanne Simmons.

The Grammy winner and pop star has spoken out since the summer. During two emotional testimonies, she said she wanted to press charges against her father for conservatorship abuse— calling the arrangement cruelty.
