Late last month, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, 40, released her new song “Break My Soul” in anticipation of her seventh studio album, which is expected to be available July 29. The anticipation is building.
After six years of silence regarding a new solo project, fans finally rejoiced in the announcements of not only the new album, “Renaissance,” but also the new single that has provided a tablesetter for what is to come.
“Break My Soul,” released on June 20, is currently available on all music streaming platforms, such as Tidal, Apple Music and Spotify. The song contains elements of house production and offers fans an escape to a more carefree type of mindset. Beyoncé sampled Big Freedia and Robin S on this production and allows this up-beat dance style to speak for itself.
“Break My Soul” was produced by The-Dream, who helped in the creation of Beyoncé’s three biggest songs, “Single Ladies,” “Partition” and “Flawless,” while also enlisting the help of Jay-Z as a writer.
While “Break My Soul” acts as a window into the “Renaissance” album, rumored collaborations with other artists have made this album that much more desirable. Artists such as Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Doja Cat and Ariana Grande are rumored to be featured.
“Renaissance” is Beyoncé’s seventh solo album and has big shoes to fill if it wants to out shine her 2016 “Formation” album.
Currently, Renaissance has a 16-song track list and is expected to be a part one of an overarching project, so there might be multiple albums on the horizon.
In a cover story interview with Beyoncé, British Vogue’s editor-in-chief Edward Enninful was able to listen to the entirety of the project and described it having “soaring vocals and fierce beats that transported him back to the clubs of his youth in the late ’80s and ’90s.”
“Renaissance” is the beginning of a new era for Beyoncé, especially since the project was written during the COVID-19 pandemic and took two years of “sleepless nights” to complete.
“With all the isolation and injustice over the past year, I think we are all ready to escape, travel, love, and laugh again. I feel a renaissance emerging, and I want to be part of nurturing that escape in any way possible,” Beyoncé said in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar.
