A lifetime of making world-class photographs

Award-winning photographer Constantine Manos, who has been represented by the famed Magnum Photo group since he was a young man, will soon be 85 years old.  Born in South Carolina, his photos of a Klu Klux Klan rally, complete with white robes, hoods, and burning crosses, were published in 1952 – the same year his photos of descendants of slaves living on Daufuskie Island, S.C., were published.

Inspired by Henri Cartier-Bresson, Manos only made black and white photos until the 1960s.  His color photo books, American Color and American Color 2, contain many photographs shot in South Florida, where he has lived in Dania Beach.
